Today we’re checking out the Sugar House neighborhood in Salt Lake City, Utah!

Truly one of our favorite neighborhoods in SLC. If you're moving to Salt Lake City, and looking for quaint neighborhoods within the city, with hip cafes, restaurants, and bars, but also tons of suburban amenities, we would absolutely suggest you check out Sugar House. Sugar House is a beautiful neighborhood with historic homes that brush up with cozy and trendy shops, rockin' schools, gorgeous park spaces and a beautiful backdrop of the Wasatch Range.

Sugar House Vibes

One of the best neighborhoods in SLC. It really has everything you need. Great housing stock, suburban conveniences, beautiful mountain views, good schools, and to top it off, cool and hip places to eat, drink and shop - a tough combination to come by!

Home to about 43,000 residents, it is rated the 5th best neighborhood in Salt Lake City overall and 8th best for young professionals*. As far as schools are concerned, they are very good here. Schools that serve Sugar House like Highland High School, Clayton Middle School, and most of the elementary schools are all rated an A- or better*.

Home Price Statistics When it comes to housing here, the stock is fairly diverse. You can find great historic bungalows and craftsman homes all over the place, but also sprinkled throughout are modern homes.

The median sales price in Sugar House is around $615k. That includes single family, condo, and townhome, etc. So, if you’re looking for single family homes, at the time of this blog, the lowest on the market goes for around $340k and all the way up to $1.5 million. In terms of condo/townhomes, the lowest on the market goes for around $260k and all the way up to about $700k. There isn’t much in the way of luxury condos, however there are a lot of single-family homes with well-maintained neighborhoods.


Pros + Cons

Pros:

  • Really great schools

  • Beautiful views of and proximity to the mountain range

  • Great outdoor spaces - the parks here are very well maintained

  • A nice mix of cool/hip spots along with traditional suburban amenities

  • Diverse housing stock - beautiful historic, modern, and mid-century homes throughout

Cons:

  • Some of the neighborhoods have smaller/tight lots

  • Highway noise depending on where you’re located - I-80 goes right through the middle of Sugar House

  • Gentrification - used to avoid big-box stores to keep their small businesses intact, but that has shifted somewhat
